*sigh* So many things that I want to post, but can't find the time before I forget about them. (Can't find the time = too lazy.) I've been trying to type up something about my trip, but every time I try, I bore myself too much to keep going. :P

I joined a gym. I haven't started going yet; the orientation is tomorrow. I can't say as I'm really excited about it, since I really don't want something else that's going to eat away at my already poorly-managed time, but I'm so sick of continuing to put on weight and feeling blah all the time. Without a gym, the only exercise I can do is walking, which isn't a really good option for me, since I have foot and knee issues, and I can't be out in strong sunlight for long periods of time. I know that going to the gym is not only going to improve my body, but also make me feel better emotionally, and probably help me use my time better, but I still can't get myself excited about it.

The good part is, I'll have a workout buddy. I'm not sure if I've posted about the new AET at my school other than my initial worries about her, but she turned out to be really cool. We have lots of things in common, but not so many that I feel like I'm in competition with her for my identity. Anyway, we'll be going to the gym together.

But still.... *clings to free time* ;__;

I went and saw The A-Team. I'd heard it was bad, and I already knew from seeing the previews that I wouldn't like it (because in order for me to like it, Murdock would have to be spot-on, and I could already tell he wasn't), but I had to go see it anyway. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it definitely wasn't good, either. So much of it was like.... Why is this happening? What does this scene have to do with the plot? Why are they trying to make Face the main character? Why did the van have to get destroyed? Why is Hannibal's hair dyed for only one scene? Why do I feel like the costume designer has never seen the actual show? Why in the name of God are Face and Murdock calling B.A. Bosco?! WHY WAS THERE NO MONEY SHOT OF A CAR FLIPPING OVER???? Not to mention, obvious CGI was painfully obvious. The script and plot should have been re-done entirely. The only time it really felt like The A-Team was when they broke Murdock out of the hospital with the movie set-up. That was a moment of genius. The poor guy who played Murdock tried, but they really should have gotten someone else for him and Face. B.A. was surprisingly good, but Liam Neeson was only barely passable as Hannibal. Mostly, the whole thing was just disappointing. (And the thought of the fic that people are going to write using nu-team characterizations makes me cringe, not that A-Team fic was that great to begin with.) It does make me want to marathon the original series again, though.

(All of this brings up the age-old heartbreaking question: Why was there never an A-Team/Knight Rider crossover? They were on the same network at the same time! It would have been the most epic epicness to ever epic.)

I finally made my decision: Pokémon White. I was leaning towards Black, but seeing the BW anime previews after the movie changed my mind. In motion, Reshiram's tuft looks even more like a penis. In contrast, Zekrom's tail has an electrical turbine in it! How cool is that? So, as usual, I'm going with the version that has the legendary that I like more.

By the way, the movie was sooooooooo boring. The plot is completely nonsensical, but basically there's a guy who wants to fist the Ass of Time.

Anyway, now I have another decision to make! I still have 4 days left on my Seishun 18, so from August 27th to 29th, should I go to Kanazawa, or Takayama? In either case, I'd go Friday night and come back Sunday night.

[Poll #1607453]

Actually, since the ticket is good until September 10th, I could do both, but I wouldn't be able to take a half day off on the 3rd. It would also mean missing half the Kansai Queer Film Festival. Hmm...

Now to go do chores, and NOT spend the whole evening reading Hourou Musuko, which is >o<.

[edit] Ehehe.. so I went and decided to do both. ^^; Takayama from the 27th to 29th, since it takes longer to get to, and Kanazawa on the 4th and 5th. I just now booked my hotels.

I also ended up reading another 30 chapters of Horou Musuko. >.>

TOY STORY 3 = BEST MOVIE EVER

I don't think I've mentioned it here, but one of my main sources of stress is that my parents sold their house and are moving to North Carolina. The main reason for this is that they fangirl some fundie Christian speaker who lives in NC, and have thus been convinced that NC is the land of milk and honey. But I'm very amused that the town next to the town they'll be living in is called Gay. Anyway, this means that every day, I get long, frantic e-mails and/or phone calls from my mother about what of my stuff that's in the basement should be gotten rid of, and what should be put into storage. I also need to do stuff like change my permanent address, and I don't even really know how I'm supposed to go about that.

Skipping Japanese class right now because I'm feeling sickish and it's monsooning out. Got some cute shirts on sale at Peace Now and Algonquins yesterday with [livejournal.com profile] rkold. One of them doesn't fit, but I'll keep it around as inspiration to exercise more. I was very good and didn't buy any skirts, only tops.

For Japan peeps, I've got my Toy Story 3 ticket, and WILL be going opening day (7/10). Probably to T-Joy, since it's the closest to Kyoto Station, and also their sound system is spectacular. Who's with me?

Edgeworth game GET!! Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] rkold! ^3^

I've been so busy lately that I can't even remember all of the stuff that I wanted to post about but was too busy doing to post. It's mostly doll stuff, I guess -- getting ready for Dolpa and the Yume no Grand Prince Hotel event, then going to the events, then shipping stuff out from the events, while keeping up with FCS, too.... And angsting over whether or not to get SD17 Hijikata and SDgr Okita takes up a lot of time and energy, too!

Anyway, I had a ridiculously fun time with Paulette and Mandy at the Yume no Grand Prince Hotel event. And I loved that I didn't have to pack a suitcase! Since the theme was Alice in Wonderland, we went dressed as Alice (me), the Mad Hatter (Paulette), and the Cheshire Cat (Mandy). We had cake for lunch, picked up our dollies, ate a fancy dinner with steak wrapped in pie crust, drooled over Hijikata and Okita, were awed by the one-off display, narrowly avoided a catastrophe at the candlelight party, enjoyed a flute and violin duet with fruity drinks, snuggled in our squishy hotel beds, and helped ourselves to a tray of neverending bacon at breakfast. It was great not having to get to Dolpa early and wait in line. I didn't win or buy anything at Dolpa, but it was fun hanging out. And I fell even more in love with the Black Peace Now skirt that I shouldn't have bought at Pure Sound, which is good, because it helps justify the price.

The other reason that I've been so busy lately is that I've been seeing a lot of movies. In addition to a whole bunch of movies that I want to see coming out all at once, there's the 10AM Classic Film Festival going on. So in a period of two weeks, I saw Rear Window, North by Northwest, Coraline, The Princess and the Frog, and Sherlock Holmes (oh my goodness, so very married, btw). And coming up is I Love You, Phillip Morris, Limelight, The Great Dictator, Some Like It Hot, Alice in Wonderland, and Trigun(!). And of course sumo and cherry blossoms, too! It looks like spring break is going to be every bit as relaxing as winter break was. :-; And every bit as expensive, too, since I'm buying 6 dolls this Saturday. x_x I think I need to bury my wallet.

OMG Star Trek IV lol FOREVER.

Need fic where Kirk "retrains" Spock on certain customs. :3

Also happy late birthday to [livejournal.com profile] magicpotion!!! *chuuuuu*

I'm really confused now. The Sato event on October 4th is NOT the usual Angels Descending event, but something else. And there's no mention of the Angels Descending event on the October calendar, BUT Sato is going to be closed on the day it's normally held. So are they having it this year, or not??? Damn it Volks, why do you always have to be so secretive?

Also: take the slashiness of Wrath of Khan, multiply it by 9 billion, and you get Search for Spock. :3 Seriously.
chocolate_chip: (Default)
Win 1: I ordered a pizza! \o/ This is especially big news for me, because I don't even enjoy talking on the phone in English. It was sooooooo good, too. Either they use real pepperoni, or it's been so long since I've had real pepperoni that I can't tell the difference any more. The bad part is that now I'm going to be tempted to have pizza way more often than I should.

Win 2: Scored some 70% offage at Black Peace Now.

Win 3: Volks is NOT having the Sato event on Health and Sports Day weekend for once, so I can actually go!

Fail: The leopard print glasses that I've been lusting after look absolutely terrible on me. ;_;

In other news, ST:Wrath of Khan is amazing and amazingly slashy. So goddamned sick of the surprise!son trope, though.

So, Star Trek opening weekend. So. Frickin'. Awesome. My only complaint is that I wish they had not insisted on shooting like every single scene handheld by a 90-year-old guy with DT. I almost thought I was gonna have a repeat of Blair Witch Project. But wow, so enjoyable, great special effects, and PERFECT casting.

And now, for my thoughts on yaoi.

minor spoilers )

Anyway, I'm seriously thinking about going back on Monday, since that's discount ticket day. How can it be June already?!
chocolate_chip: (Default)
In keeping with the idea that watching fucked-up movies will make me feel less fucked-up by comparison, I watched Dr. Strangelove tonight. God, that movie is so brilliant. But it reminds me of my friend who is Jewish and therefore is completely intolerant of anything German (even though her family is of German descent, and what a lol it was the day she found THAT out), who was like "OMG how can you even WATCH that movie don't you know the title character is a Nazi???" And it's like, ummmm, that's the whole POINT?

Anyway, I'm feeling much better than last night, but this cough is a bitch.
chocolate_chip: (Default)
So, thanks entirely to [livejournal.com profile] yhibiki, I downloaded Ai no Kotodama.

my thoughts on yaoi )

tl;dr GO WATCH IT NOW. >:E

In other news, I got good results on the mandatory company physical! It basically said, "Your weight in within the acceptable range. Please maintain it. Your blood sugar is a little low [a huge LOL for anyone who's spent a day with me], but you don't need to take any special measures. Please improve your eating habits by next time." The blood test was taken about 90 minutes after I'd had two chocopan for breakfast, too. XD

[edit] Icon. SEE, THIS IS WHAT YOU'RE MISSING OUT ON IF YOU DON'T WATCH IT.

First of all, [livejournal.com profile] rkold and [livejournal.com profile] misspaulette are sneaky, devious, awesome people. They planned a surprise birthday party for me! ♥ There was ice cream, presents, JET people, non-JET people, dollie people, non-dollie people, cheezburgerz, and all-night karaoke! ^o^ (Fastest seven hours ever, btw.) We didn't get the ¥10,000 parfait, but the group two tables over did.

Then we stumbled home around 6 Saturday morning to get some sleep before going over to Tenshi no Sato. Sato was a bit of a bust -- the release date was pushed back on the mini Komame plushie, the outfits we wanted were sold out, and all the good cakes were gone -- butttttt Kun-maybe-Tobin got her wings! ♥ Sooooooo cute~~~~ Be glad I have no good place to take photographs, or I would spam you with a billion of them. Then I had a yummy sort of carbonara with pumpkin for dinner, and once again went home to try to catch the bare minimum of sleep before the next day's events.

Sunday was Osaka Comic City (tiny! only two halls!), so Rachel, Paulette, and I headed down there to meet Irena and Rachel's friend who omg works for Capcom and is totally awesome. And a big Phoenix/Edgeworth fangirl, which explains so much about the English version of the games, lol. But most importantly, I found out the answer to the question I've had for a while, and I'M RIGHT AND FANDOM IS WRONG. \o/ SUCK IT, FANDOM.

Anyway, I got a couple AtoZuka doujinshi, some Roy/Ed, and a rather long Dean/Sam book by my favorite Supernatural circle (who has also branched out into Chronicles of Narnia, which is perfect for their style, but I soooo don't want to go there). There's no smex, unfortunately, but it wins just because Dean is stranded on a planet with a bunch of Docomo mushrooms. But actually, I was much more excited about my non-doujinshi purchases. I got a new cleaning cloth for my glasses, which is not only so much better than my old crappy one, but has Oshitari proclaiming his love for megane on it! There were two booths with the cutest original kitty artwork ever, and I got a bunch of postcards, an eco-bag, a cleaner strap for my DS, and a notepad. And at assorted other places, I got a necklace, a bookmark, and some stationery and a cell phone strap for gifts.

Then, because, you know, we hadn't spent enough money on porn, we headed off to K-Books and Animate and the Osaka Volks. I actually may have not bought anything. I was tempted by a post GS4 Phoenix Wright doujinshi because it had a super hot older!megane!Edgeworth on the cover, but other than that, the art wasn't that good, so I passed. We finished off the evening with dinner at some garlic place that had the best garlic bread evar.

So yeah. I went into work Monday morning having spent no more time in my apartment over the weekend than was absolutely necessary to sleep and shower. =_= Everything was awesomely fun, but no recharge time whatsoever. Monday, had to work late. Tuesday, realized holy crap, yes, all the applications for the big Volks event did have to be mailed together, and had to arrive by November 3rd, sent out a bunch of frantic e-mails, and met Rachel for a surprisingly filling vegan dinner, although my teriyaki tofu steak was more like tofu and less like steak than I would have liked. Wednesday, had to meet Paulette to get her application, and we were both in the mood for a movie, so we decided to see Eagle Eye instead of doing silly things like catching up on sleep or watching Supernatural. It was the right choice. Thursday, spent my lunch break and the post office and worked late again, but treated myself to dinner at McD's and a delicious piece of chocolate cake from the local bakery. Friday, met up Paulette again, as it was 31% off Baskin Robbins' double cone day, an event that is not to be missed. (Ghost World = ♥) And we swung by Animate so I could pick up my MaruMa OTP mug! Seriously, it has chibi-Yuuri and chibi-Conrad surrounded by sixty-three hearts. Even the handle is shaped like a heart! IT IS OBVIOUSLY CANON. Then I came home and went to bed. And spent a relaxing three-day weekend doing laundry and finally getting a chance to watch Heroes and Supernatural. Yes, an entire week without even a single spare hour to watch Supernatural. It was hell.

But now we can all rejoice in a new birth of freedom from batshit fundie Republicans! Thank you, America, for not repeating the same dumbass mistake as four years ago. I think, for the first time in my life, I'm actually excited about my country's president.

Dark Knight opened today (well, yesterday, by this time). Fucking amazing.

And what, Kuroshitsuji anime already?! There's only 4 volumes of the manga out!

[edit] WAT. Sakamoto Maaya is Ciel's seiyuu???????????

FMA.

Post-movie.

CROSSOVER WITH INDIANA JONES OMG YOU KNOW IT WOULD BE AWESOME.

And now, for another rousing edition of "Look At All the Crap Emily Bought!" I ended up NOT going to Comic City today after all, because there's a bigger one in August, and it's a lot of time and money and hassle just for some mediocre porn that I already have too much of anyway. Plus, the group that was going wanted to see Juno afterwards, which was all hell no. But I promised [livejournal.com profile] rkold that I'd send her package today, and hey, I was already dressed, so I went down to Kyoto Station. In case you're wondering, Kyoto Station is where the central post office is, which is open all day on Sunday, and there's also a big craft store there, and I needed to buy some snaps for my h.Naoto skirt. (That's right, bitches, I said h.Naoto.) And the easiest way to get from the subway to the post office to the craft store without getting soaked because yay, rainy season, is to use the underground mall. And I was weak. But most of it was stuff I really did need. I got some socks and a couple calculators and a necklace stand at the 3 coin shop, where everything is ¥300. Of course, that's not including tax, so it's actually impossible to buy anything with 3 coins, but whatever. Then I went looking for the shoe store I had seen earlier, because they had Toppers, and I really REALLY needed a new pair of sneakers. But I was distracted on the way by a really cute blouse. >.> It was a little expensive, and I probably shouldn't have bought it, but it actually fit, and it's SO Japanese. So it can be my token Japanese girly shirt. I just need to find the right thing to layer it with. Then I found the shoe store, and they were cute and fit well and were actually not that expensive considering what shoes in Japan usually go for, and considering how hard it is to find shoes here that you can actually wear all day without wanting to shoot yourself, so I got them. And then I thought I was done, but a display of folding fans caught my eye. Of course the one I liked was the ¥3000 one in a display of ¥1000 ones, but it was really nice, and I really needed one, so I got it anyway. I was also tempted to get the Disney's Belle perfume that store had, but I didn't. XD The End. Until next week, when the sale at Black Peace Now starts. >_>;;
This shopping trip was brought to you by the numbers 7 and 11, which is the only place I can get cash on weekends. *fang*

But yes, I saw Indiana Jones yesterday! *fangirl* It was far from perfect; spoilers )

Back on the topic of doujinshi, last weekend I went with Ilona and [livejournal.com profile] nightflight to a Phoenix Wright doujin and cosplay event. It was small, but fun. There were lots of good cosplayers, including a cute-as-a-button Apollo, a freaking amazing 6-years-ago Mia, a perfect Judge, and a Jean Armstrong, lololol. There was also a raffle, and Ilona won a pair of Gavinners or whatever the Japanese name of the band is guitar picks, which she gave to me. And if your birthday was in June, you got a bag of Godot's special blend coffee. As for doujinshi, there wasn't much for pairings that I like, but I got two Gavincest, one when they were younger, which I can fully endorse, and one just because it's a whole lot of really well-drawn cat-ear porn. Ironically enough, after explaining to my cohorts how Klavier and Apollo just didn't have that "spark" in the game, they sparked in my own mind, so I think I'm an official fan of the pairing now. ^^

Long sentences are long. Also rainy season sucks, even though it looks like we got off easy this year. Also, I want to punch American Guy in the face, but that's an entry for another time.

Oh, and I uploaded my old Yami no Matsuei music video to youtube. Validate me, plz.
chocolate_chip: (Default)
So, thanks to my upstairs neighbor who was being really loud all night long (not that I needed very much incentive), I finished GS4 last night. My thoughts: NEEDS MOAR EDGEWORTH.

spoilers )

I'm also enjoying catching up on Supernatural. But it's slightly nervewracking, because I take it way too seriously, and I hate having to put my trust in a group of writers, because they invariably end up doing something really stupid, like the werewolf episode. It's never good when you care more about a series' characterization and continuity than the writers do. ^^; Which is why I don't read mainstream US comics anymore, but that's a rant for another time. I just hope that the thing I've been noticing and really like (which is that Sam only goes postal on those who threaten or harm Dean) is intentional and not just a fluke on the writers' part.

Oh, I also saw Prince Caspian, like a week ago. It wasn't bad, but seriously, the entire script should have been rewritten. I mean WTF, if you can't fit everything from the book into the movie in the first place, it's not the time to go adding things that were never in the book to begin with?? I was VERY surprised about Eddie Izzard, though. I had no idea! Internet, you have let me down! All in all, it was well worth going, if for no other reason than REEPICHEEP PLUSHIE CUTEST THING EVER OMG. >o< And that is why Japanese movie theaters are better than American movie theaters.

And oh yes, I will kill anyone who spoils me for Indiana Jones. >:E
chocolate_chip: (Default)
The other AET and I went to see Sweeney Todd with one of our JTEs yesterday. It was my first time in a Japanese movie theater, so there was a little bit of culture shock. The tickets cost twice as much (and the seats are assigned), the food costs half as much (but no delicious butter-flavored ooze on the popcorn ;_; ), and the floors are spotless.

cut for possible spoilers )

On a side note, I'm usually not made queasy by movie violence, but I did find parts of it kind of hard to watch. Actually, the only movie that ever made me feel physically ill from the violence is Raging Bull. Even Le chien andalou, perennial squicker of film students, didn't bother me that much, but I couldn't deal with Raging Bull. Weird, huh?

Now I'm in the mood to watch more movies.... I want a good action/adventure, but Indiana Jones doesn't come out until June. *emo* Enchanted looked intriguing, but I thought it was probably stupid and not worth the ticket price, but then I looked it up on Rotten Tomatoes, and apparently it's quite good? So maybe I'll go see that.

ALSO SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHEN IS THE KNIGHT RIDER MOVIE AIRING? I NEED TO GET MY BITTORRENT READY. :O
