So, Star Trek opening weekend. So. Frickin'. Awesome. My only complaint is that I wish they had not insisted on shooting like every single scene handheld by a 90-year-old guy with DT. I almost thought I was gonna have a repeat of Blair Witch Project. But wow, so enjoyable, great special effects, and PERFECT casting.

And now, for my thoughts on yaoi.

Wow. Even I was surprised at how much slash was going on between Kirk and Spock. The stuff with Spock and Uhura... while it was sweet, it was so obviously tacked on to prevent the film from being Kirk and Spock's Big Love Adventure in Space. It could have been cut out completely, and wouldn't have changed a thing in the plot or characterization or tone of the movie. In contrast, The Relationship Between Kirk And Spock is the film's heart and soul.

Anyway, I'm seriously thinking about going back on Monday, since that's discount ticket day. How can it be June already?!

Lol, while I definitely saw the Kirk/Spock, I actually liked Spock/Uhura! For one, it's SPOCK getting the girl, not Kirk XD For another, it was done pretty well, IMO, since it had them as an established relationship. I saw the movie twice now, and I caught more Spock/Uhura-ness that I had missed the first time around. :)

I'm still annoyed they didn't let Uhura establish herself beyond the girl that Kirk was chasing after and the girl who was in love with Spock. =\ Leonard Nemoy amping up the slash vibes (probably on purpose) was hilarious, though.
