we now return to your regularly scheduled life, already in progress

Which is a whole lot easier said than done. It doesn't help that work is being ridiculous, as in, "What do you mean, you can't grade 250 final exams in one afternoon?" and "What do you mean, it takes more than an hour to read and correct 40 essays?" >_> When I get home, my brain pretty much shuts off. I have so much stuff to catch up on that it's hard to find a place to even get started.

Anyway, to keep myself from feeling overwhelmed, I'll just post about good things for now. And the good things are very good! Since I didn't have time to book a trip to Malaysia for winter break, I promised myself that I would go to Sapporo for Yuki Matsuri instead. I was really worried about getting plane tickets, since I can only fly on the same days as everyone else, but I managed to get the ones I wanted. Not at the cheapest price level, but still pretty cheap. I have to fly in and out of Nagoya, but it saves about ¥40,000.

And the super special awesome bonus? Guess who just happens to be playing at Zepp Sapporo that weekend? So now I have tickets to Sapporo and tickets to see Asian Kung-Fu Generation while I'm there. Now I just need to figure out what else I'll do for those 2 1/2 days (besides visiting the conveniently located Pokémon Center, lol). Almost as exciting, the weekend after that I'll be seeing Straightener in Osaka. I still can't believe I won two pre-request lotteries in a row!

OMG I HAVE CHEETOS. REAL ONES. T___T I haven't even eaten any yet, just sticking my head in the open bag and breathing deeply.

So, to cap off a week that involved my JTE saying, "Hey, let's have a lesson about that guy from SMAP who got drunk and ran around Tokyo naked!" and a whole bunch of cops coming to my school because of a moped gang, [livejournal.com profile] misspaulette and I went to see the Takahashi Rumiko exhibit at Isetan. It would have been super amazingly awesome, except A, it was packed with a billion people, and B, while we were in the Ranma 1/2 section, some kid threw up all over the place. And by all over the place, I mean there was a trail of vomit going through every room in the exhibit. -_-

The exhibit really was amazing, though. It was so cool to see the original artwork up close. Plus, there was a whole room with pictures of Lum drawn by other mangaka, including Nonaka Eiji (Cromartie High), Watase Yuu (Fushigi Yuugi), Kumeta Kouji (Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei), Arakawa Hiromu (Fullmetal Alchemist), and my favorite one, Yoshizaki Mine (Keroro Gunsou). I was seriously ready to scream from all the people, though.

Then we went to Starbucks in Porta to get something to eat, and there was a special music stage thingy going on right next to it. Just as we were finishing eating, the next act came on, an a capella group. They were really good, so we stayed to listen to their whole set, and were rewarded with the unexpected awesomeness of their last number.

Bleh, I also set up a new ff.net acount for myself (pen name Sporktacular), but there's nothing there that's not already on [livejournal.com profile] geek_mythology. I learned that ff.net's upload system still sucks, they still have ridiculous character restrictions, and there are still lots of idiot reviewers. >.> Oh well, here's hoping to get back into the swing of things. (Damn stupid people on the internet need to stop being so entertaining! They're taking up too much of my time!)

So, I just caught up on Supernatural.

I'm a little bit speechless. I wonder what the normal people think of it. XD

I hope this won't be the end of the gay references nearly every episode?

And it's only Wednesday.

So far this week, I've seen Phoenix and Edgeworth dance in sparkly tuxedos, and I won a Volks rei-tenshi. (For you non-Volks people, that's one of their rarest dolls, with a first-hand value of $0 because you can't buy one from the company, and a second-hand value of over $1000.)

:O <-- me

o.O Well, here's something to improve my mood.

HOLY SHIT, YOU GUYS.

I was about to get in the shower, when I remembered I hadn't done my daily Picross yet, and I HATE having that blank spot on my calendar all month. So I was doing that, and for some completely unknown reason, I decided to check Weezer's website to see if they'd posted any tour dates, because for the last forever, their site has been all "we're not on tour now, lol!" But this time, it was "O HAY WE'RE IN OSAKA NEXT WEEKEND. AND BTW, YOUR FAVORITE BAND IS OPENING FOR US."

That's right. I HAVE A TICKET FOR ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION/WEEZER.

....I'm still in shock. This is way too good to be true.

Super Comic City: Mecca for fangirls

OR: How many women can fit in a train car?

OR: Good God, I don’t even collect doujinshi; why on earth did I spend this much money??

x_x I never knew it was possible for so much doujinshi to exist. My arm will never recover.

But! That’s okay, because not only have I made my pilgrimage to one of Japan’s largest fandom events, as every fangirl should, but I made some awesome finds. Like the BEST ATOZUKA DOUJIN EVER, SRSLY.

AND SUPERNATURAL DOUJINSHI LOL WUT.

And.

Wait for it.

SUOH X NOKORU DOUJINSHI YES I AM SERIOUS MY ENTIRE LIFE IS VALIDATED NOW. >o< Yes, I am going to become one of “those” people and stalk this circle to every event they go to, because omg, Suoh x Nokoru doujinshi. This makes me so happy.

Kansai Super Comic City total haul:

Code Geass
3 Lelouch x Suzaku (2 for [livejournal.com profile] rkold, 1 which I bought on a whim to resell for huge profit)
1 some other guy x Suzaku (for [livejournal.com profile] rkold)

CCD
4 Suoh x Nokoru (i.e. everything they had)

Supernatural
5 Sam x Dean (but why no Dean x Sam? T_T I thought the Japanese got over the height rule already!)

original BL
2 Nekota Yonezou (Yamada D) original stories

Prince of Tennis
1 St. Rudolph gag book (sadly, the only Fujicest to be found was in novel form)
3 AtoZuka

Fullmetal Alchemist
1 Roy x Ed / Al x Ed / other!Al x Ed anthology
1 Elric brothers fan

There was so much awesome art everywhere~ I wanted to buy more (there was one 4-komi in an Ichigo x Ishida doujin that was so >o<!) but I had to watch my money, and there was also the thing about not being physically able to carry it all. Next time, I’ll be smart like the J-fen and bring an empty suitcase with me. And hopefully my plan to spend hundreds of dollars on doujinshi and then sell them for twice what I paid when I’m done reading them will work. XD;

And now, it is time to break in my new scanner. :3

Wal-Mart revelations

:O They make clear duct tape now! It is both A) awesome, and B) what's holding my computer desk together. ^^U Also, the My Little Pony "Ponyville" sets? Fugliest things ever.

In bad news, they pushed back the release of The Cinematics' album to next month, but in good news, they switched the New Haven show to a Boston show! They added a Providence show too, but I can't go to that since it's on a weeknight. ;-; But the new schedule will make it a lot easier to go to the Montreal show, if I decide to do that. ^^

I got a free sofa yesterday, which is yay, but it will clash horribly with that beautiful butterfly cabinet I saw at Target the other day. (It looks like it came straight out of Loveless, and I want it~) Also, someone at work *may* be giving me a TV, but that's not for sure yet.

And I have a crapload of stuff to do before Friday, so I had better get going.

various things, with squeeage

1. One of the great things about Supernatural is that you can do all the cracky fanfic things like mpreg and gender-switch and make it so it's actually plausible. I'll actually be very surprised if there isn't canon body switching at some point during the series.

The problem with gender-switch fic of course, is which pronouns should you use? That of the character's current physical gender, or their original (what I would consider to be "actual") gender? I tend to say the latter, but that creates some really weird syntax sometimes.

Not that I'm actually considering writing gender-switch fic.

2. In which I squee. )

3. Ph34r mah Photoshop skillz!

click for 1280x960 version

Note that even though the two original photos look like they're two halves of the same photo, if you check the rearview mirror and the shadows on the ceiling, they're clearly not. And the tip of Sam's knife? ALL ME, BABY. I'm perhaps most proud of how I got rid of the watermark, though. At any rate, I rock, and more importantly, Sam and Dean are damn sexy. ^o^ Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] extremefangirl made a wallpaper of it! But she hasn't posted it yet. ^^

new Golden Pair single, what?

x__x I just spent a shitload of money at CDJapan.....

The main thing was the CCD DVD box set. Don't ask me to rationalize that purchase. I know it's not the world's best anime, but I NEED IT SO SHUT UP. :P At least the exchange rate's more favorable now than it was when it was first released.

Then, since I'd already decided I was getting that, I was checking to see if they perchance had the Fujicest pull charm that [livejournal.com profile] rkold showed me because it is SO FREAKING ADORABLE AND I WANT IT AND [livejournal.com profile] sailorstarsun, IF YOU SEE THEM WHILE YOU'RE IN JAPAN, PLEEEASE BUY ME ONE OR TWO OR SEVEN I WILL PAY YOU BACK YOU KNOW I'M GOOD FOR IT. >o< Uh, anyway, they didn't have that, but hello Golden Pair single being released on the 20th? How did I miss that?? By completely avoiding fandom, I know. Like there's any way in hell I'm not scooping that up and sleeping with it under my pillow at night. So that went in the cart, too. And I figured that since I was already hemmorhaging money, I might as well get the two Stance Punks albums I don't have, since they don't yet have a big enough fanbase that their stuff can be stoled on teh intarwebz. Plus, it's my duty to transliterate their lyrics, or something.

And I didn't even order the FMA calendar I wanted, but since those have to ship separately anyway, I figure I'll order it once the points from this order are applied to my account. Yay, discount!
