I really wanna hear Nanaho Hikaru yell "Objection!" in English now.

Today's earthquake was big enough to be put on the USGS map! It was a 4.8, but the epicenter was about 60km northeast of here, so it was still pretty mild, but there was definitely more shaking going on than any of the other earthquakes so far.

Anyway, what people really want to know about: Phoenix Wright: The Not-As-Gay-As-You-Would-Expect Musical!

Basically, it was a combination of really good and really bad. They really went to a lot of effort to make it just like the video games (except setting it in NYC? IDGI) and the result was amazing. They used the game BGM of course, and even incorporated some of the game's music themes into the singing numbers. Also, all the sets were designed so that there was a "top screen" where evidence would be presented. The video projection and live action was integrated really well. And there was a stepladder, so they scored big points from me on that one.

And then there were the characters. In particular, OMG Edgeworth. But also Lotta, who was nine ways of awesome, Larry, whose actress had all his little mannerisms down pat, and Maya, who was sooooooo cute, but mostly OMG EDGEWORTH. He was PERFECT. The costume, the attitude, the hair, everything! *dies* In particular, his jacket was cut a little longer than in the games, but it swirled around him so gracefully when he danced~ <33 (And also looked really sexy.) Phoenix's actress had a good Phoenix-y grin, but the hair was ALL wrong, so it was a little hard to get into Phoenix.

However. The story. SUCKED. It was soooo bad, and I don't just mean because of the het although that was a big part of it. First of all, it was almost completely ripped off from 1-5. Body found stabbed in an underground car park, there's two photos that supposedly show the beautiful but aloof defendant (who is also a lawyer) in the act, and the defendant wants to confess even though she's innocent, because she's protecting her younger sister who got caught up in another murder a few years back, where a policeman was killed and now his brother wants revenge. But surprise! The real murderer is the defendant's boss, a powerful government employee! I mean, really? The only thing that wasn't in 1-5 was the whole "My ex-girlfriend who I was completely infatuated with until she broke my heart might be a murderer, but I'll defend her no matter what, even though I'm not in love with her anymore, or maybe I am" thing, which they pulled straight out of 3-5. So the story was really not very original or interesting at all.

Secondly, they spent so much time telling Phoenix and Leona's back story and how their TRU LUV was destroyed by a flock of giant crows, that they didn't properly develop the present-day case at all. There was pretty much only one piece to the puzzle. Phoenix hardly did any investigating, and he didn't even show his badge to anyone! :'( They also didn't make use of the Psyche-lock, which I think could have been done really well.

But the main reason the story was made of fail is because they COMPLETELY rewrote canon around the OC. Because! That day in the fourth grade when Edgeworth defended Phoenix, Leona was there!! And she defended him, too!!!! And then she and Nick were BFF 4EVA and they went to law school (wtf????) together!!!1! And I guess Mia and Iris and Dahlia just never existed. >_> Hey, let's take this awesome character and completely change everything that makes him awesome! Yeah.

ANYWAY, as I said before, I didn't go for the story, I went for fun lolz, and there were plenty of fun lolz to be had. And Edgeworth's sparkly tuxedo was alone worth the price of admission. And there were a couple of incredibly slashy P/E moments, too. It's just that there's so much slash in the games to begin with that it seems perfectly normal for Phoenix to go into song at the mention of Edgeworth's name. XD

tl;dr 6.5/10, would lol again. I just hope it doesn't turn the fandom to shit like TeniMyu did.

Sounds like a typical film adaptation ;) Much as the girls like their slash, their scriptwriters are not strong on coming up with believable plots, alas. (Though judging by clips, Edgeworth makes up for it. I need to keep an eye on that actress.)
