Yes, yes it was, but when the first episode is that bad it is hard for me to watch more. I had that problem with 00 Season 1, luckily I didn't really need to watch 1 to watch S2.
Awwww Geass is really nothing like Wing. I watched some of Wing in 2004 and was surprised by how.. not gay it was ^^; I'd just come from Seed which was excessively gay and a huge giant soap opera in space. ♥ Wing was OK if you wanted politics but the characters were sort of meh and I have a hard time keeping track of giant robots.
Geass has giant fighting robots in it, but hmmmm they're not as important as you might think. A lot of the series is more based around high school hijinks in R1 and Lelouch using his evil eye.
Other than Lancelot who is white and Guren who is Red most of the other mech are just really not so important, I think it helps that Lelouch is a crappy pilot lol
R2 a lot of people complained about the lack of mech and how short the battles were. R2 mostly focused on Lelouch starring in a harem anime and the Geass writers loving Clamp, and uhh Suzaku being super gay.
