Just because I didn't think I was ever going to beat this into a place where I was happy with it.

But also, can anyone recommend any good books or websites for basic Japanese grammar? Specifically particles.

I will recommend what I learned from in college, because I've used 3 different textbooks since and they all suck in comparison as far as grammar discussion goes: Japanese: The Spoken Language. I will say that it is not the most user-friendly book because the author is writing from a linguistic standpoint wherein she explains everything in tons of detail, often including charts, whereas other textbooks give you a quick blurb and an example and say "Now you try!" However, I actually liked knowing what I was using and what it means and how it compares, lol. One warning is that since it's intended for people who either don't have time/reason to learn written Japanese or who are learning it seperately from conversation, all the Japanese in the book is written in official romaji. If you can't be bothered with it, though, most people I know used the Genki textbooks and liked them well enough.

Another recommendation would be any of the Kanzen Master books intended for study for the Japanese profiency test (JLPT), like this one. If you're at a really beginner level, look for stuff for level 4.
